…It's Less Complicated Than You'd Think

Thinking of purchasing a 5th wheel but worried about towing? Don't panic—you're not alone. Plenty of newbies feel the same way. The good news? It's a lot less complicated than you think, and with a bit of practice and the right guidance behind you, you're set. Get passed the initial unfamiliarity, and you'll find towing a 5th wheel is stable and trouble free.

Anyone can do it!

What legally do you need to tow a 5th wheel?

First and foremost, your driving license needs to allow towing of the heavier combinations. If your arrangement is above 3,500kg (which many 5th wheels are) then you'll likely need a Category C1+E licence. Check what you're entitled to, especially if you passed your test after 1997.

Choosing the right tow vehicle

Not all pickups are the same. A 5th wheel hooks into the truck bed, giving you more stability than hitch towing— but you do need to have a truck with the carrying capacity. Vehicles like the Ford Ranger Wildtrak are ideal, especially if you add airbag suspension to raise Gross Train Weight (GTW) to 7,000kg.

At CCRV, we not only supply UK-ready 5th wheels, but we also fit tow vehicles with hitches and airbags so they are suitable for the task of towing.

Practical Support That Makes All the Difference

This is where CCRV really shines—and where we've given hundreds of customers the confidence to get on the road, even if they've never towed anything bigger than a trailer.

Free 3-Night Camp Stay at Our Exclusive Campsite

As a purchaser of a 5th wheel from CCRV, we invite you to spend 3 free nights of stay at our campsite. Why? Because it's the greatest opportunity to get acclimated, learn about your new RV, and have questions answered in an informal atmosphere.

It’s not just a nice gesture—it really makes a difference to confidence, safety and enjoyment. You’ll get the time and space to figure things out before hitting the road for real.

Can You Tow an RV?

There is no licensed qualification to tow a 5th wheel in the UK (other than having the correct licence), but we have found that our customers appreciate the 'hands on' driver instruction we offer. That is why we take the time to walk you through the fundamentals:

  • Attaching your 5th wheel

  • Getting established on a pitch

  • Stripping down and striking camp

  • Reversing with confidence

  • Driving skills in corners, hills, and narrow bends

You’ll have the chance to drive around the campsite, practise manoeuvres, and get expert feedback from our experienced team. It’s relaxed, informal, and tailored to your needs. By the time you leave our site, you'll have improved your skills—and taken your first mini-break in your new 5th wheel home.

Thinking of making the change to a 5th wheel? Make it easy. Call in on our UK-ready range at ccrv.co.uk, ring us, or best of all—come and see us. Your adventure starts here.
